A faith-based organisation, the Ansar-Ud-Deen Society (AUD), has called on the Service Chiefs to be more strategic and proactive towards containing escalating insecurity scenarios in the country.

Dr Abdul-Rafiu Ade Sanni, President of Ansar-Ud-Deen Society

Dr Abdul-Rafiu Sanni, the AUD President made the call in a statement made available to TheNewsZenith on Sunday in Lagos.

Sanni noted that the society was seriously concerned about the security situation in Nigeria, given the escalating insecurity plaguing the nation.

He cited recent incidents, including but not limited to the tragic killings of two traditional rulers and the abduction of some primary school pupils in Ekiti as some mind-burgling incidents that underscore the dire necessity for more proactive measures.

“Over the past three months, the surge in country-side security challenges has become alarming, with devastating events on the psyche of Nigerians.

“Cases abound of such wanton killings and loss of lives, including security personnel, and property destruction in Agatu and Logo Local Government Areas of Benue State.

“Instances of security breaches, such as kidnappings in the Federal Capital Territory and other regions, a bomb explosion in Ibadan, Oyo State as well as the killings in Plateau State, further emphasize the urgency to address the security situations.

“This grim reality indicates the need for the Service Chiefs to be more strategic and proactive.

“This is as various operations by the Nigerian Army, Airforce, Navy and Police seem still unable to contain these escalating insecurity scenarios.

Sanni, however, commended the nation’s Armed Forces personnel for their efforts “but we believe they still have to do more to win this war”.

“In this regard, we strongly solicit that the intelligence-gathering methodologies presently being deployed should be overhauled to meet the present challenges.

AUD also advocated that special attention should be given to the Armed Force Community Relationship to engender confidence in the Armed Forces by different communities.

“We implore the National Assembly to significantly improve their oversight functions on the Armed Forces (Ministries of Defence and Police Affairs). This ensures proper utilisation of the huge amount being allocated for security purposes.

“And, we believe the government should give special attention to the general welfare of the fighting forces to improve their morale.

“The Ansar-Ud-Deen Society extends its heartfelt condolences to the families affected by these acts of violence. It prays for strength in their time of loss.

“We urgently implore the Federal Government to continue to enhance its security mechanisms to prevent further deterioration of the nation’s security situation and protect its citizens.
