Kano State Government has advised the general public to take precautionary measures to prevent the spread of diphtheria infection in the state.
In a statement, on Tuesday in Kano, the State Commissioner for Health, Dr Abubakar Labaran, asked people to avoid unnecessary gatherings.
This is in order to safeguard themselves and others from the disease.
“People should desist from needless gatherings, especially as harmattan is fast approaching.
”Diphtheria usually hits its peak during harmattan.
“It is an airborne disease. Therefore, any person suspected to have serious symptoms of catarrh should isolate themselves and visit nearest hospital.
“Suspected persons should not mingle with healthy individuals.
”This is because coughing, sneezing and shaking hands, are the major ways of transmitting the disease.
