Gov. Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has solicited more hands of support and friendship with United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
Yusuf made the request when he received the visiting Country Director of the UNICEF, Mrs Cristain Munduate in his office in Kano.
He said such areas that required more support are education and health.
According to him, these areas are critical sectors of human endeavours.
In the health sector, Yusuf identified malnutrition and poliomyelitis that needed more attention as it involved children and other vulnerable people.
The governor also appealed for assistance in tackling the issue of out-of-school children and child protection policies.
He enumerated the achievements of his administration in the education sector.
“Our administration is committed to the provision of necessary infrastructure, learning materials new, classrooms, training and retraining of teachers.

“We are equally committed to ensuring an enabling environment for teaching and learning.
“In the health sector, the government has done a lot in providing free medical care for women and children.
“We renovated hospitals and supplied equipment to the hospitals,” Yusuf said.
He assured the UNICEF team that the Kano State government would remit twice the funding that its sister-state, Jigawa is remitting to the malnutrition issue.
Earlier, Munduate commended the leadership style of Gov. Yusuf, especially in prioritising the education sector.
The director recalled that UNICEF and Kano have a long-existing relationship. She stressed the need to strengthen the relationship for more mutual benefits and collaboration.
Munduate pledged UNICEF’s continuous support to the state in the Health and education sectors.
She also stressed the need for the states to remit their counterpart funding for malnutrition projects.
