The least-paid Nigerian workers will now take home N70,000 monthly as approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

While approving the new minimum wage, Tinubu also pledged to review the national minimum wage law every three years.

Mr Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, announced this in a statement posted on his verified X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday.

TheNewsZenith reports that this is coming after the labour leaders met with the President in Abuja earlier in the day.

“President Bola Tinubu has approved N70,000 minimum wage for Nigerian workers.

“This is with a promise to review the national minimum wage law every three years.

“President Tinubu also promised to assist the private sector and the sub-nationals to pay the minimum wage.

“President Tinubu announced the decisions at a meeting with leaders of TUC and NLC on Thursday in Abuja.

“This is the second time the parties met in seven days,” Onanuga tweeted.

He further stated that labour leaders praised President Tinubu’s “fatherly gesture”.

“The Labour leaders applauded President Tinubu for the fatherly gesture.

“This is as the President also promised to use his discretionary powers to meet the demands of university unions demanding unpaid four months’ salaries.

“The President also vowed to exercise his executive discretion to address the outstanding four months’ salaries owed to university unions,” he added.
