Magistrate jails security guard for stealing

A Surulere Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, on Monday, sentenced 25-year-old security guard, Edu Nkanu, to seven years in prison for stealing.

Nkanu, who resides at No 14, Babatunde St., Off Ogunlana Drive, Surulere. Lagos faces charges of stealing compressors of air conditioners valued at N380,000 belonging to his employer.

The Magistrate, Mrs O.O. Otitoju, sentenced Nkanu after he pleaded guilty to the charge, without an option of fine.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp Courage Ekhueorohan told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Aug. 8, at No. 77 Itire Road, Surulere, Lagos.

Ekhueorohan said that Nkanu worked as a security guard at a hospital (name not disclosed).

The officer said the defendant stole four compressors belonging to the hospital.

According to Ekhueorohan, the offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
