An appeal has gone to Gov. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State to make history by appointing the first woman to fill the vacant Deputy Governor’s position.

The National Coordinator of “Nothing Without Women”, a renowned socio-political group, Alhaja (Hon) F. I Gidado, made the call during an interaction with newsmen, on Monday, in Akure.

Gidado, a Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, also urged the governor to enforce the 35 per cent “Affirmative Action” by appointing more qualified women into appointive positions.

She urged the governor to “break the age-long record by appointing a woman as his Deputy”.

“There are many qualified, competent and credible women in Ondo Central and Northern Senatorial Districts of the state who can occupy the position.

They can contribute meaningfully to the development of the Sunshine State.

“Ondo State will clock 48 years in April. But it is regrettable, that no woman has ever been elected as governor or deputy governor in the state.

“Women’s political participation results in more tangible gains for democracy, including greater responsiveness to citizen needs.

“They have also influenced cooperation across party and ethnic lines for sustainable peace,” the Iya Adinni of Akure land said.

“In addition, women have indissoluble gravitas to bring intelligent growth and development to policies that inspire family development.

She, however, called on women to always come out en masse and participate in politics, saying “women cannot stay indoors and get recognition.

“Our numerical strength is higher and we must endeavour to take advantage of it.

“We should do this actively participate in every electoral process for more recognition in terms of appointive slots,” she advised.
