Lagos, March 18, ’25 (TNZ) Two faith-based organisations, at the weekend, spoke in unison about the efficacy of zakat in aiding ethical redistribution compared to tax reform.
They are the Muslim Professional Accountants’ Association of Nigeria (MPAAN) and the Nasrul-Lahi-l-Fatih Society (NASFAT).
TheNewsZenith reports that, in partnership, they jointly hosted the Annual Ramadan Lecture, where they dissected the economic tools. This is the maiden edition of such a collaboration.
The theme of the virtual lecture is “Zakat: A Forgotten Source of Wealth and Nigerian Tax Reform.”
It brought together renowned Islamic scholars, financial experts and professionals.
They discussed the economic potential of Zakat and the impact of Nigeria’s tax reforms on national development.
Alhaji Modupe Kadri, the Chief Finance Officer of the communication giant, MTN, was the Chairman of the occasion.
Kadri said the annual programme serves as a veritable platform for knowledge reflection and strengthening of collaboration among Muslims professional accountants.
He commended MPAAN and NAtSFAT for their collaboration and commitment to financial literacy and ethical economic empowerment.
He emphasised the importance of Zakat in fostering a just and prosperous society.
Ustadh Saheed Salman, Deputy Registrar of Yaba College of Technology, delivered the keynote address.

Salman delved into Zakat’s critical role in poverty alleviation. He advocated for a structured administration for maximum impact.
Also speaking, Mr Akeem Adeboyo Ogunseni, Associate Partner at EY, gave a comprehensive analysis of Nigeria’s tax reforms.
Specifically, Ogunseni dwelled more on tax compliance, economic benefits and strategic financial planning.
The MPAAN Amir/National President, Alhaji Mutiu Adelu, delivered the opening remarks.
Mr Akeem Atanda, who represented the MPAAN President, underscored the body’s dedication to advancing financial discipline, ethical wealth management and professional excellence.
In his address, the Father of the Day, Dr Rasak Jaiyeola, lauded the programme initiative.
Jaiyeola encouraged Muslim professionals to uphold ethical financial practices while contributing to national growth.
Dr Rasheed Ashamu, a NASFAT missioner also delivered a compelling lecture, focusing on the theme of the programme.
Ashamu, a lecturer at Lagos State University, spoke on Islamic finance, ethical investment, and the principles of sustainable economic development.
TheNewsZenith reports that the Organising Committee Chairman, Mr Saheed Ajadi, extended the MPAAN’s sincere appreciation to NASFAT and other distinguished participants for their contributions to the impactful discourse. (TNZ)
