The Nigerian Railway Corporation recorded a 49.73 per cent decline in passenger freight, convening 672,198 passengers in Q4 of 2023, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS)
TheNewsZenith reports that this decline is against 1,337,108 people who travelled via rail system in the corresponding quarter of 2022.
NBS gave these figures in a report published on its official website on Monday.
Also, NBS reported that the volume of goods/cargos transported in Q4 2023 stood at 119,286 tons, compared to 53,136 tons recorded in Q4 2022.
Between October and December 2023, NRC generated N1.07 billion as against N1.15 billion recorded in the corresponding year, 2022.

NBS further reported that the corporation generated N423.22 million from goods/cargo freight in Q4 2023, up by 169.16 per cent from N157.23 million received in Q4 2022.
In addition, other revenue accrued to NRC amounted to N393.72 million, indicating an increase of 3.02 per cent in Q4 2023 from the N382.17 million collected in Q4 2022.
On an annual basis, however, passenger freight in 2023 declined by 32.08 per cent compared to the previous year.
Annual revenue from passenger travel also declined by 2.64 per cent in 2023, while the volume of cargo and revenue from cargo rose by 102.04 per cent and 144.32 per cent respectively relative to 2022.
