Ogun launches digital platform to enhance farmers production

The Ogun State Economic Transformation Project (OGSTEP) has launched an integrated digital support platform, to offer one-stop resources to farmers and other value-chain actors in the state.

The platform is “Ogun State Farmer Information Management System (OGFIMS)”
The state government had initiated the platform, in partnership with the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA).
The state Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr Adeola Odedina, launched the platform on Saturday in Abeokuta.
Odedina noted that the initiative is “an effort to link farmers with agricultural opportunities for better productivity”.
He added that the digital agricultural initiative fits perfectly into the agricultural agenda of the state to support small-holder farmers.
It will also enhance food security, nutrition security, job creation and link manufacturers to the agricultural process.
Through a strategic partnership with the private sector and collaboration with relevant agencies, the state government has ensured that small-holder farmers tap into the opportunities to drive sustainable supply to industries.

“We want to make Ogun State the centre of agricultural excellence.
“This is to enable our small-holder farmers to benefit from opportunities in programmes that will strengthen the value chain.
“And this is only possible if data is available.
“That is what OGFIMS is aiming at,” the commissioner said.
Also speaking, the Commissioner of Budget and Planning, Mr Olaolu Olabimtan, commended the initiative.
“The state government is interested in new ideas that enhance its agricultural potential,” Olabimtan said.
He said that OGFIMS would add value to the state’s agricultural roadmap as it would enhance linkage of relevant stakeholders to opportunities.
It would also update farmers with information on agricultural best practices.
