The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) has petitioned the Egyptair management over its non-responsiveness on the death of a Nigerian, Ms Remilekun Toyosi Meshioye.
TheNewsZenith reports that Meshioye died on board the Egyptian airline on Sept. 4.
In the petition she personally sighed, NIDCOM Chairman, Abike Dabiri-Erewa demanded justice from the airline.
The Commission’s Head of Media and Public Relations, Abdur-Rahman Balogun delivered the petition to Mr Majdi Al Aridi, the General Manager of the airline in Abuja office.
Dabiri-Erewa described the sudden death of Remilekun as sad and painful.
She stated that Meshioye’s case was drawn to the attention of NIDCOM in a petition received from an elder sister of the deceased, Mrs Olufunmilola Olaniyi-Alabi, from the UK.
NIDCOM boss said that since the death of Remilekun aboard the airline from Lagos to Cairo, Egyptair management has not contacted any member of the family nor her next of kin as contained in her particulars before boarding the aircraft.
“It is surprising that Egyptair management has not deemed it fit to contact any members of Remilekun family to break the sad news to them.
“Neither has the management sent condolences to them.
“It has not responded as well to NIDCOM petition since Wednesday, Sept. 13,” the commission said in a statement.

“On behalf of the family and the Federal Government of Nigeria, the Commission is demanding full disclosure of incidents that led to the sudden death of Ms Remilekun Toyosi Meshioye aboard Egyptair on that fateful day.”
Dabiri-Erewa has condoled with the family and prayed for the repose of the soul of the deceased.
She assured them that justice would be served in memory of Meshioye.
Meshioye, 41, was travelling to London to resume her studies. She left Lagos for London onboard Egypt Air MS 876 flight en route to Cairo on Monday, Sept. 4.
However, she allegedly took ill on board and brought out dead from the aircraft at Cairo International Airport.
The family, according to Mrs Olaniyi-Alabi, said the Airline didn’t inform them.
“Rather, we got a message from Nigeria’s consular office in Cairo informing us of her death on board the flight.
“Please, we need to know what exactly happened to Remilekun. And how do we get her corpse back to Nigeria for burial?
“We also want the management to release her belongings in the custody of the airline,” Olaniyi-Alabi stated in the petition.
