Somali army kills 44 al-Shabab militants

The Somali National Army (SNA) killed 44 al-Shabab militants and injured more after an operation at Ali Fuuto area in southern Somalia, the government confirmed on Saturday.

International partners are backing SNA, according to the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism.

The ministry said the joint forces conducted the operation on  Friday evening.

This followed an intelligence report reaching National Intelligence and Security Agency that the militants were regrouping to plot attacks on residents.

“The operation destroyed the terrorists’ strongholds.

“They were regrouping and storing weapons in their stronghold at the time of sting operation,” the ministry said in a statement.

It says the government will flush out the militants out of their hideouts in the country.
