Troops of One Division of the Nigerian Army, operating in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, said they killed five bandits and recovered four AK-7 rifles.
Lt-Col Musa Yahaya, Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations One Division Nigerian Army, announced this on Friday in Kaduna.
Yahaya said the operation was in continuation of the onslaught against bandits and other criminal elements terrorising the country.
He said troops have conducted clearance operations on Kanti-Tantatu road in Kubusu forest and Kaso hills areas in the state.
“This is to deprive bandits and criminals of freedom of action and to create an enabling environment for economic activities and legitimate businesses to strive,” he stated.
He explained that the operation started on Thursday and till the early hours of Friday.

“The operation dealt a heavy blow on the criminals, neutralising five bandits.
“It also recovers four AK-47 rifles, six AK-47 magazines and 24 rounds of 7.62mm from the bandits.”
Other items recovered included three motorcycles, one matchet, two handsets and some charms.
Yahya said the General Officer Commanding One Division Nigerian Army and Force Commander of Joint Task Force Operation, Whirl Punch, Maj-Gen Taoreed Lagbaja, commended the commitment and resilience of the troops during the operation.
He urged all law-abiding citizens to continue to support the troops and other security agencies with credible information.
These, he said, would assist in the fight against the criminal elements.
