The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Sunday, declared Gov. Hope Uzodinma of the APC the winner of Imo governorship election, thus securing a second term in office.
The State Returning Officer, Prof. Abayomi Fasina, declared results of the Saturday’s off-circle election.
Fasina said Uzodimma polled 540,308 votes to defeat 17 other candidates.
He added that the PDP Governorship Candidate, Sen. Samuel Anyanwu, polled 71,503 votes.
Sen. Athan Achonu of Labour Party, came third with 64,081 votes. while Mr Anthony Ejiogu of APGA scored 6,392 votes to occupy a distant fourth position.
TheNewsZenith report that the SRO,Fasina doubles as the Vice Chancellor, Federal University Oye-Ekiti, Ekiti State.
The APC State Collation Officer and Attorney-General of the state, Mr Cyprian Akaolisa, commended INEC for the hitch-free conduct of the election.
Akaolisa also praised the gallantry operation of security agencies for ensuring peace and order during during the poll.
“It is clear that INEC did its best in ensuring free and fair election.

“From distribution of election materials to the conduct of the election, every process went well.
“Security agencies did their utmost best to ensure that the process was smooth. We had a credible, free and fair election.
“This victory is victory for Imo people and for the continuation of the development of the state,” the APC chieftain said.
But the PDP candidate called for cancellation of the election, alleging that there were incidences of ballot box-snatching and violence.
Anyanwu further alleged that security agencies compromised by assisting INEC officials to tilt the victory in favour APC.
However, INEC’s Head of Voter Education, Mrs Emmanuella Opara, dismissed the PDP allegation as unfounded.
Opara told newsmen that the commission had yet to receive any official reports on vote buying or any malpractice.
