Vietnam sends 142,000 abroad to work under contract in 2022

Vietnamese Government said they sent more than 142,000 labourers abroad to work under contract last year.

The country sent the labourers mostly to Japan, China’s Taiwan and South Korea, local media cited the country’s Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs as reporting on Friday.

The number was three times that of 2021’s figure and surpassed the target set for the year.

The figure stood at 90,000, local newspaper Tuoi Tre (Youth) reported, citing the ministry’s Department of Overseas Labour.

The report said Japan tops the destination for local workers with more than 67,000.

China’s Taiwan followed with nearly 58,600 and South Korea with approximately 10,000.

It added that the total number of companies licensed for sending labourers overseas was 456.

The figure in 2022 was still lower than in 2019 (the pre-pandemic period), which hit 147,000 workers. (Xinhua)
