Woman drags hubby to court for alleged abandonment

By Our Correspondent

A businesswoman, Sikira Deji, on Tuesday, dragged her husband, Okediji before a Customary Court in jikwoyi Abuja, for alleged abandonment.

The petitioner, who resides in Mararaba, Nasarawa State in a divorce petition she filed against her husband, said he abandoned her and their two children for over four years.

“He secretly travelled to France, abandoning me and the children. I have been the only one catering for them and paying the bills,” she said.

She also told the court that her husband denied her conjugal rights

“I am not forcing him to come back to me; I want him to take full responsibility for our children.

“I pray the court to grant me a divorce, custody of the children and an order compelling him to pay monthly upkeep for the children,” she said.

The respondent, who was not present in court, however, sent a letter consenting to the divorce.

The presiding judge, Labaran Gusau, adjourned the matter until Nov. 16, for further hearing.
