The Yaba College of Technology Students’ Union (SUG), at the weekend, rounded off a three-day retreat for its Executives, Senate and Judiciary members, in Lagos, TheNewsZenith reports.
Our correspondent reports that the theme of the Retreat was “Building a Foundation for Quality Administration”.
The retreat is the first of its kind since the management of the College reinstated the students’ union body on campus.
SUG President, Comr. Morakinyo Olaolu Sola spoke to TheNewsZenith at the close of the retreat.
He said the retreat aimed at fostering dialogue, collaboration and strategic planning among the three arms of the union.
“It brings together the Executives, Judiciary and the Senate Council of the union to enhance the administration’s efficiency and effectiveness.
“This is to prepare them ahead commencement of activities for the 2024/2025 academic session.
“Throughout this event, the student union leaders engaged in insightful discussions, workshops, and activities to lay the groundwork for a more robust and inclusive student governance system,” Sola said.
He noted that union leaders’ participation and contributions were crucial as they chart the course for a brighter future for their beloved institution.
“It is important that the union leaders and the students generally, work together to build a solid foundation for excellence in this 44th administration.

“This will in turn affect the College positively, enable the student leaders to understand areas of partnership and support newly admitted students.”
Sola described his regime as a “Transformation Regime”.
“This implies that we must support the students’ growth, identify their challenges and advocate for their needs at all times.
“We will ensure these, without being confrontational, but through diplomatic engagement and dialogue with the College management.”
He commended the Dean of Student Affairs, Alhaji Alaba Olalekan, for relating well with the SUG.
According to him, Olalekan recognises the importance of student unionism and he prioritises their welfare. “He has always been a good listener and a father to all students,” Sola added.
The SUG President further noted that organising the retreat was another indication of peace and unity reigning in the College “under the administration of our dear Rector, Dr (Engr.) Ibraheem Adedotun Abdul.
“The College management is listening to the voices of our students. And, they are addressing our concerns, needs and expectations”.
TheNewsZenith reports that some past leaders of the SUG like Comr. Sanusi Naseef, Odewunmi Quadri, Adewuyi Adesanmi and Samson Oli-Oni among others attended and supported the retreat.
