Tributes have been pouring in following the death of the renowned Islamic scholar, Sheik Muyideen Ajani Bello, shortly before the Jummah prayer today in Ibadan, Oyo State.
TheNewsZenith reports that Alhaji Bello, who was born in 1940 in Ibadan, Oyo State, was known for profound Islamic teachings.
Many Nigerians reacted to the report of his death across social media, praying for the late cleric.
They noted that the late scholar’s legacy would continue to inspire generations. His life remains a testament to unwavering faith and the pursuit of knowledge.
In a special tribute, the General Secretary of the Ogun Muslim Council (OMC), Alhaji Kamaldeen Akintunde, said the entire world “has missed a juggernaut, an icon and a quintessential personality”.
Akintunde said Bello’s demise, as ordained by his Creator, has caused grief. “We mourn his loss, which has created a big vacuum.
Shaykh is a renowned preacher of National and global repute for his profound intellectual life contribution to Islam.
“He is gone, but his preachings, available in several multimedia channels will remain indelible,” TheNewsZenith quotes Akintunde as stating.
In an earlier tribute, posted on Facebook, an Ibadan-based Cleric, Sheikh Akewugbagold Taofeek, expressed grief over the passage of Shaykh Bello.
“Today is one of my saddest days! My father, mentor has returned to his creator.
“SULTONUL WAHIZEEN of Yorubaland Sheikh Muhyideen Ajani Bello, may Allah be pleased with your soul. Aljannah fridaos for you.
“Our heart is full of grief and our eyes full of tears but we will say nothing but what will please our Creator the sole commander of life and death – ALLAH,” TheNewsZenith quotes Akewugbagold as stating.
A politician and Federal lawmaker, Sen. Buhari Abdulfatai, said the death of Sheikh Muyideen Ajani Bello has left him in profound sorrow.
Reacting on his verified Facebook account, Abdulfatai noted that Baba (Late Shaykh Bello) was more than an Islamic scholar.
“He was a moral compass, a voice of truth and a father figure whose counsel I cherished deeply. His wisdom and guidance were unparalleled, and his presence illuminated every space he entered.
“My deepest condolences go to his family, the Ansar-Ud-Deen Society of Nigeria, and the entire Muslim Ummah.

“May Allah (SWT) grant him Al-Jannah Firdaus and comfort us all as we grapple with this loss,” TheNewsZenith quotes the Senator as posting.
One of the late Cleric’s ardent followers, Alhaji Basit Olarenwaju, popularly known as Aponle Anabi, also shared the image of the scholar with tearful emojis on his official Facebook page.
An educationist, Saheed Oladele paid glowing tribute to the scholar on his Facebook account.
“When I last visited Baba, he saw me off and stood talking to me outside for more than 30 minutes.
“I wondered how someone, over 80 could stand that long when I can easily get weak at my age,” Oladele recalled.
A veteran broadcast journalist, Alhaji Tajudeen Uzamat said the Muslim Ummah (community) “will miss Ajani Bello”.
TheNewsZenith recalls that one of the late Cleric’s children, Alhaji Basit Olanrewaju Katibi Bello, first broke the news of his passage.
Basit, also known as Aponle Anobi, confirmed the demise of the renowned scholar in a social media post on Friday.
He posted crying emojis with a picture of the Sheikh but did not provide any other details.
Late Shaykh Bello was eloquent with a deep understanding of Islam.
He was a beacon of knowledge and a tireless advocate for peace and unity.
His teachings, according to Alfa Aribidesi of At-Tawdeeh Islamic Da’awah, “transcended generations, leaving an indelible impact on the Muslim Ummah in Nigeria and beyond”.
The Cleric embraced formal education, believing that education is vital to someone’s.
He obtained a National Certificate of Education (NCE). Late Bello also worked briefly in electronics, a trade he learned from his brother.
