Osogbo, Aug. 31, ’26 (TNZ) An Islamic scholar, Sheikh Habeeb Shittu, has called on parents to equip brilliant children with virtues, moral and religious education, alongside modern knowledge.
TheNewsZenith reports that Shittu made the call at the fourth Islamic Convention, Qur’an Memorisation and “I’daadiyah” graduation of the school in Okuku, Osun State.
Shittu noted that it was wrong for parents to send only “troublesome” or academically weak children to religious schools while sending brilliant ones to universities.
According to him, obedient and brilliant students also need Qur’anic memorisation and moral education to achieve greatness, beyong the western education.
“Many graduates of this Institute are doing excellently well in higher institutions in Nigeria, the US, UK, Egypt, Dubai, Jordan and other countries.
“This is because they are nurtured with virtues, morality and modern knowledge, in addition to memorising the Qur’an,” he said.
“Parents must not assume that religious education is meant only for average students.
“Every student needs the knowledge. No knowledge is a waste.
“From experience, we achieve better results with 30 per cent effort on willing and brilliant students than 100 per cent on an average student,” TheNewsZenith quotes Sheikh Shittu as saying.
He congratulated parents and graduands, urging Nigerians to ensure a balance of academic and moral development for their children.
Not Motivated By Money
Also speaking, Dr Ibraheem Raji, the Guest Speaker, advised graduands to pursue Qur’anic memorisation for Allah, for the sake of Islam and humanity, and not for material gain.
Raji made reference to a recent global achievement by a Nigerian Qur’an memoriser, Maryam Ibrahim Dan’Azumi, as a the spiritual benefit.

“A Nigerian Qur’an Memoriser, Maryam Ibrahim Dan’Azumi, was recently rewarded with about ₦120 million for winning globally.
“The spiritual benefits of memorising the Qur’an far outweigh monetary rewards,” the guest speaker said.
TheNewsZenith recalls that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s congratulatory message to Miss Dan’Azumi from Gombe State for emerging winner in the women’s category at the 46th King Abdulaziz International Qur’anic Competition in Makkah, Saudi Arabia.
Dan’Azumi defeated contestants from 132 countries to win SAR300,000, approximately ₦120 million.
President Tinubu also commended her elder sister, Hajara Ibrahim Dan’Azumi, winner of the 18th Hashemite Jordan International Qur’anic Competition for Females in 2024.
Another guest speaker, Sheikh Qamarudeen Ballo, urged graduands not to rest on their achievements.
Ballo appealed to parents to serve as role models so that the knowledge acquired ny the students would not be in vain.
Speaking on behalf of graduands, the Best Graduating Student in Qur’an, Balqees Yisa-Adeniji, thanked parents for their sacrifices and urged colleagues to see the graduation as the beginning of greater achievements.
TheNewsZenith reports that the graduands in Qur’an memorisation are Waliyullah Oyerinde Omotayo, AbdulLateef Oloyede, Abdullah Abdul-Azeez, IIsa Abdullah-Khalifah, Umar-Faruq Sulayman, AbdulRahman Jum’ah and Balqees Yisa-Adeniji.
Qur’an reciters are Sa’eed Adebowale Kehinde, Abdul-Baasit Adebayo, Umar Ayandeji, Sherif Aderibigbe, Adam AbdurRahman, Abdus-Sobuur Irewole and Muhammad Raji-Desire. (TNZ)
