Agege Local Government has disbursed N100,000 cash to 20 selected residents under its empowerment scheme to enable them to become self-reliant.
The Executive Chairman of the local government, Chief Ganiyu Egunjobi, distributed cheques for the empowerment programme on Sunday in Agege.
Alhaja Aminat Abdulsalam, represented the chairman at the elaborate programme.
Egunjobi admonished the beneficiaries to ensure they invest the money wisely as business startups.
He advised them to make proper use of the empowerment fund for financial sustainability.
“We admonish you to utilise the money for business startup or to boost your existing businesses in conformity with the purpose of the scheme,” the chairman said.
He said the council remains committed to the welfare of residents, particularly, the struggling families in the area.
“We urge residents to always support the Egunjobi-led administration for more dividends of democracy.

One of the beneficiaries, Mr Olayiwola Azeez, thanked the council boss for not relenting in enhancing the welfare of residents but giving out financial empowerment.
Azeez said he would make good use of the money to expand his existing business.
Also speaking another beneficiary, Mrs Mojisola Omodele, gave kudos to the council leadership for the kind gesture.
Omodele added that the money would go a long way in improving the welfare of her family.
The NewsZenith reports that hundreds of residents have benefited from the scheme in the past four years of the Egunjobi administration in the local government.
