Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, on Monday in Abuja, took oath of office as the substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), The NewsZenith reports.
Speaking to journalists after his swearing-in ceremony, Justice Ariwoola appealed to politicians to allow the judiciary function properly as the 2023 elections approach while promising reforms at the apex court.
The new CJN promised to pursue reforms at the Supreme court across several lines such as welfare of judicial officers and speedy delivery of justice.
Also, Gov. Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, who attended the ceremony expressed gratitude of the people and government of Oyo State to the President for appointing Ariwodola as the new CJN.
Meanwhile, the FEC observed a minute silence in honour of former Minister for Special Duties and Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), late Chief Vincent Ogbulafor, before the council meeting commenced.
The NewsZenith reports that Ogbulafor recently died while on medication in Canada.
