Court dissolves 3-year-old marriage in Ilorin

An Area Court in Ilorin, Kwara State has dissolved the three-year-old marriage between Rukoyah Ibrahim and Ibrahim AbdulKareem at the wife’s request.

The presiding Judge, AbdulQadir Umar, after ending the union, ordered the wife to observe three months ‘Iddah’ period before engaging in any other marriage.

The Iddah period is the waiting time within which to ensure that she is not carrying a pregnancy.

Earlier, the petitioner had told the court that after the first sitting, nobody called her to settle the misunderstanding.

She, therefore, urged the court to dissolve the marriage with the respondent.

Rukoyah said there is “just one child” from the marriage.
