A fleeing driver has crushed two street sweepers with the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) to death.

TheNewsZenith gathered on Monday that the driver was trying to evading arrest from traffic officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), when the accident happened.

The incident occurred around Charly Boy Bus Stop, along the Gbagada–Oworonshoki Expressway in Lagos.

An eyewitness said the deceased sweepers were going about their routine duty when the fleeing driver ran over them. They died on the spot.

The situation led to a demonstration as passersby and motorists protested the killing of the road sweepers.

A viral video taken by an onlooker showed the mangled bodies of the victims lying in the pools of their own blood.

The video also showed the Honda Accord car, with registration number EPE-984-DV, hanging over the road drainage.

“LAWMA is working with security agencies to apprehend and prosecute the errant driver of the car.

“We wish to appeal to motorists for the umpteenth time, to drive with utmost caution on the highways.

“They should avoid sad incidents like this happening to our sanitation workers or anyone in the course of their legitimate duties.

“We urge the public to remain calm as LAWMA is taking appropriate steps to put necessary measures in place,” the agency’s statement read in part.
