Experts applaud Tinubu’s selection of new service chiefs

Two experts in security operations have lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing experienced personalities as service chiefs for his administration.

The experts spoke in separate interviews with newsmen on Wednesday in Lagos.

Mr Dennis Amachree, President of Security Strategic Group, remarked that the Presidednt was meticulaus in picking the right people for the security job.

According to him, the appointment of new service chiefs is critically tied to that of the National Security Adviser (NSA).

“First, the president does not want a seniority clash among the NSA and service chiefs, so picked new chiefs who will be Ribadu’s mates or possibly his juniors.

“Secondly, he will want them to work as a team to achieve the national security objectives.

“We need possible synergy now, considering the security issues facing the country,” Amachree said.

Also, Mr Matthew Ibadin, Chief Executive Officer of Badinson Security Services, described the newly appointed service chiefs “as round pegs in round holes”.

Ibadin said some of the new appointees had held security offices in the past and performed creditably well.

According to him, the development is a good omen to the security architecture of Nigeria.

This is, especially the selected key changers in the Police, Army, Navy, Airforce and other agencies.

“The new service chiefs will perform better than their predecessors.

“This is because, in terms of professionalism, many of them understand the system already.

“From their biography and antecedents, many of them have been tested and are very okay for the position,” he said.

Ibadin also said that Malam Nuhu Ribadu, the new National Security Adviser (NSA), “is perfect for the job because he laid the foundation for the Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)”.

Ibadin noted that the country needed somebody to redesign the security architecture.

“I believe Ribadu will do it, especially with the increasing oil thefts and insecurities all over the country.

“I believe in the next six months, people will be able to travel across the roads with confidence in Nigeria.”
