The Ikorodu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), with the German Chamber and Association Partnership Project (KVP), jointly trained 70 female Small and Medium-sized Entrepreneurs (SMEs).

TheNewsZenith reports that the capacity training took place at the ICCI centre in Ikorodu on Thursday, Lagos State.

The training’s theme is “Navigating Legal and Regulatory Issues: Understanding Business Regulations, Legal Compliance and Securing Necessary Permits”.

Speaking at the training, ICCI President, Mr Olutele Oduloye, advised women’s organisations to advocate for more involvement of female folks in business.

Oduloye advised women entrepreneurs to register their businesses to access benefits from government and international donors.

“This kind of training will enlighten them more on best practices to enhance their business ideas,” he said.

Earlier, Dr Kirsten Albrecht, KVP Project Director, said KVP organised the training to equip women entrepreneurs with what they needed to know to ensure success in their businesses.

Albrecht said the training was essential to also enlighten them on the regulations governing businesses and hindrances.

This is also to provide them with foundation training for necessary creativity that will enable them to excel.

She advised the chamber to engage in an advocacy drive to attract more women entrepreneurs.

This will enable them to have a better operation environment and keep abreast with the rules and regulations governing their businesses.

“The more members the Chamber has, the stronger their voice towards government and doing better in their business.

“The chamber can organise training and consultancy like this to help other women entrepreneurs do better.

“This idea can impact positively and boost diversification of Nigeria’s economy. When the economy is diversified, it becomes stronger,” Albrecht said.

Also, Mrs Helen Tabunor-Ogedegbe, a bilingual consultant, called on the government to tackle multiple taxation.

“Addressing this will encourage more women entrepreneurs in Nigeria,” TheNewsZenith quotes Tabunor-Ogedegbe as saying.

She urged members to regulate their businesses and register to have access to different opportunities.

Coordinator of KVP Project in Ikorodu, Mrs Stella Akande, expressed excitement at the expected impact of the training.

Akande said the training had widened the knowledge of the female entrepreneurs.

This is especially on the importance of registering their businesses with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and taxation.

“Those people are toying with taxes, know that paying tax is very important. Even if producing and not making a profit, they need to file their business record.

“They now know how to pay their tax as and when due to avoid penalty,” Akande said.
