Lagos, March 18, ’25 (TNZ) The Secretary of the Universal Service Provision Fund (USPF) in the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Mr Yomi Arowosafe, has commended two global telecom bodies for collaborating with the Nigerian to deepen rural connectivity for socio-economic development.

TheNewsZenith lists the two bodies as the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the United Kingdom Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (UK FCDO).

Arowosafe gave the commendation at an industry-focused stakeholders engagement session, held in Lagos.

The session built on USPF’s ongoing efforts to achieve wide network connectivity coverage in unserved and underserved communities across Nigeria.

Key players in the nation’s telecom sector attended the event.

They include the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr Bosun Tijani; the Executive Vice Chairman of Nigerian Communications Commission, Dr Aminu Maida; Chief Executives of telecommunications companies and State ICT commissioners among others.

Speaking, Tijani spotlighted President Bola Tinubu’s commitments to provide enabling policy directions towards ensuring greater connectivity in Nigeria.

Also, the NCC boss, Maida emphasized the Commission’s resolve to continue to back all USPF projects through effective regulatory measures.

Such measures, he said, would help accelerate the deployment of necessary digital infrastructure that supports the Federal Government’s priority areas and ministerial blueprint.

In his remarks, USPF’s Scribe said the engagement reflected the USPF’s shared vision and commitment to expanding inclusive connectivity.

“Achieving this requires strong partnerships among government, private sector, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), development partners, and community leaders.

“By sharing insights and resources, we can design tailored solutions that address both immediate and long-term connectivity challenges,” TheNewsZenith quotes Arowosafe as saying.

He noted that ahead of the session, the USPF gathered input from stakeholders through questionnaires.
