Kenyan industrialists, on Wednesday, pledged to expand their clean energy initiatives, aiming to pave the way for a low-carbon future in the East African nation.
Anthony Mwangi, the Chief Executive Officer of the Kenya Association of Manufacturers made the pledge at a forum in Nairobi.
Mwangi said the sector would roll out some initiatives that will expand the use of renewable energy sources. This is in order to power their production processes.
“Manufacturers also wish to use energy sources like wind, water and sun that do not pollute the environment,” Mwangi said.
He spoke during the 9th Clean Energy Conference and Expo, which runs from Tuesday to Thursday.

The event brought together over 100 delegates of senior government officials and energy experts and 30 exhibitors. The exhibitors showcased innovations in the clean energy space including renewable energy, water, e-mobility, green building and clean cooking.
Mwangi said Kenyan manufacturers will combat energy poverty by creating green jobs resulting from use of clean energy technologies.
David Mutisya, the acting director in charge of the energy efficiency and conservation department at the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum, noted that Kenyan industrialists have made great strides in the use of clean and renewable energy.
He added that the promotion of clean energy is paramount as it supports the country’s initiatives of improving access to energy without harming the environment. (Xinhua)
