Makinde charges new judges to protect people’s rights

Gov. Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, on Thursday, swore in eight judges of the State High Court and two Judges of the Customary Court of Appeal, charging them to protect people’s rights.

TheNewsZenith reports that a representative of the National Judiciary Commission, Yakubu Ismaila attended the event in Ibadan.

Speaking at the occasion, Gov. Makinde praised the collaborations that exist among the three arms of government.

He said this has helped in delivering democratic values to the people of Oyo State.

TheNewsZenith recalls that the National Judiciary Council recently approved the appointment of eight judges of High Court of Justice and two judges for the Customary Court of Appeal for Oyo State.

The governor expressed optimism that the judiciary sector would an impact positively in sustaining agenda framework of his administration.

Makinde reiterated that there was no political interference in the selection of the new judges.

“The three arms of governments have worked together to ensure that we deliver the true dividend of democracy to our people.

“With the appointment of these judges, we assured of further strengthening the judiciary in Oyo State,” he said.

The governor urged the new judges to carry out your duties with all sense of responsibilities.

“You should live up to expectations of the office you now occupied.

“The people will be looking up to you, to protect their rights,” TheNewsZenith quotes Makinde as saying.

Earlier, the State Chief Judge, Justice Iyabo Yerima, charged the newly sworn-in judges to be honest, steadfast and firm in discharging their duties.

“”While congratulating our newly appointed judges, let me use this medium to charge your Lordships to be steadfast, honest and dedicated in your duty.

“The number of cases in our courts is ever increasing. So, you must be ready and brace up to take up the challenge,” Yerima said.
