The Federal Government has reiterated its commitment to ensure educational service delivery and prioritise the welfare of academic staff.
Education Minister, Prof Tahir Mamman, made the pledge when he met with the leadership of Congress of University Academics (CONUA), on Friday, in Abuja.
TheNewsZenith quotes Mamman as saying that the ministry ”is committed to enhancing the quality of service delivery”.
The meeting centred on various issues affecting the country’s university education, especially the academic staff’s welfare.
CONUA’S National President, Dr ‘Niyi Sunmonu, led the union executive to the meeting.
Sunmonu lauded the minister for inviting CONUA to the meeting as the union identified areas of immediate government attention.
He cited issues such as payment of three and a half months withheld salaries of members arising from the 2022 strike, which CONUA never participated in.
He also mentioned payment of outstanding Earned Academic Allowance (EAA), promotion arrears and timely payment of pensions.

”Soon, the efforts will pay off but we need patience and perseverance from the unions,” he said.
He added the government would engage in generating ideas for the success of the education sector.
”The ministry stands for anything that will enhance the quality of service in the ministry,” TheNewsZenith quotes the minister as saying.
