National Security: NISS seeks collaboration with NCC

The National Institute of Security Studies (NISS) has sought collaboration with the Nigerian Communications Commission for enhanced application of Information and Communication Technology towards improving national security.

NISS’s Director of Research Estimates and Library Services, Dr Adegboyega Karim, made the request when he led delegation to NCC.

The delegation was on a fact-finding mission to NCC to enrich ongoing research focuses on regional integration in Africa.

The NewsZenith reports that the delegation comprised of Executive Intelligence Management Course Sixteen Participants (EIM16).

EIM16 is a study group with representations from various security agencies under the auspices of NISS.

They are typically senior officers in security agencies, including the military, police, intelligence services and other relevant agencies.

The director noted that NCC has made giant strides in advancing the course of digital economy development in Nigeria.

“Its regulatory processes provide a good opportunity for collaboration to enable the group to research further into matters regarding telecommunications and national security.

NCC’s Director of Special Duties, Dr Ikechukwu Adinde, received the team on behalf of Danbatta.

Adinde affirmed readiness of NCC to collaborate with the Institute and private and public institutions that focused on national development.

He reiterated the advancements made in ICTs.

“It is within this context that the commission continued to promote the deployment of robust digital infrastructure capable of supporting and improving the security of lives and property.

“NCC is consolidating on successes recorded in the telecoms industry through the effective regulatory regime.

“To this end, the Federal Government has formulated some policies on Nigerian National Broadband Plan (NNBP) and the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy (NDEPS),” he said.

According to him, these and other policies enhance NCC’s efforts at building resilient digital economy that supports security.
