The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) will begin the enforcement of the digitalised Central Motor Registry (e-CMR), asking vehicle users to register for safety and security compliance.
In a statement on Sunday, Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said the enforcement will start on July 29.
TheNewsZenith reports that the Force tasked vehicle users to register for safety and security compliance.
The enforcement is part of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun’s efforts to enhance the security of lives and property.
This is to rejuvenate and digitalise the motor vehicle registration system. It aimed to significantly bolster the nation’s safety and security framework.
“The e-CMR is an advanced, real-time online repository of motor vehicle data.
“It is to support police investigations, operational activities, and combat vehicle-related crimes including terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and armed robbery.
“The transition to a digitalised system will streamline the documentation and verification processes for vehicle ownership and related transactions.
Following the IGP’s directives, services such as change of ownership, change of license number, change of engine and change of chassis/body would become seamless.
The e-CMR system will ensure the validation of vehicle genuineness and ownership.
It will enhance the ability to track and recover stolen vehicles effectively and prevent innocent buyers from purchasing stolen vehicles.
Before the enforcement itself, Egbetokun ordered full publicity of the e-CMR and its enforcement to the public.

“Intimating the public of the requirements, processes and the enforcement procedures.
“The public is urged to obtain the digitalised CMR certificate online at https://cmris.npf.gov.ng,” TheNewsZenith quoted Adejobi as stating.
For further inquiries, he said individuals could contact the CMR Command Centre at FHQ Abuja (08117777666, 09169892000) and FHQ Annex Lagos (08117777555, 09169891000).

While seeking the understanding and support of all well-meaning citizens on this initiative, NPF said it is committed to leveraging technology and strategic approaches to enhance public safety and national security.
“The enforcement of the e-CMR is necessary to ensure a safer and secure environment for vehicle ownership.
It would also decimate the trend of vehicle theft by reducing the possibility of selling stolen vehicles in the country.
“We, therefore, urge all vehicle owners and users to embrace and key into this initiative promptly for optimum safety and security,” FPRO stated.
TheNewsZenith recalls that NPF, in April 2023, introduced the e-CMR for the seamless management of every motor vehicle and its ownership.
This is to address the rising sophistication of vehicular crime in the country.
