Awka, Sept. 1, ’25 (TNZ) The Elders Council in Anambra State have appealed to the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), not to dissolve the State Executive Committee, led by Mr Chidi Chidebe.
TheNewsZenith reports that the party elders rose from a crucial meeting in Awka, saying the party in the state “is peaceful, intact and in safe hands”.
Chief Felix Oli and Dr Odili Ojukwu, the council’s PDP chairman and secretary respectively, issued a communique at the end of the meeting.
They stated that the current executive of the Anambra PDP was performing well and actively engaging all stakeholders in the party’s affairs.
The elders council also described the falsehood against the legitimate state executive committee as regrettable and concerning.
“Nothing warranted the call for the dissolution of the PDP leadership in Anambra,” TheNewsZenith quotes the elders as stating.
They, therefore, called on the NWC and the PDP Governors’ Forum to ignore the propaganda.
”The call for dissolution will destabilise the legitimate structure of PDP in Anambra.

”It can weaken internal cohesion and cast doubts over the credibility of the coming Nov. 8 governorship elections in the state and the National Convention,” TheNewsZenith quotes the elders as stating.
They noted that there was no legal action pending against the Anambra Executive Committee and that any rumour suggesting otherwise ”is entirely false”.
The council appreciated the efforts of the National Executive Council (NEC), NWC, Governors’ Forum, Board of Trustees and the National Caucus in stabilising the party.
They recommended that the NWC convene a meeting of major stakeholders of the PDP in Anambra.
According to the elders, the party should organise the stakeholders’ meeting in Anambra state. This is to gauge the prevailing sentiment and mood of the party accurately.
“We extend our sincere gratitude to the NWC led by Amb. Iliya Damagun, for their steadfast support during our challenging period,” the elders stated. (TNZ)
