Tanzanian Police recover 6kg of stolen gold

Tanzanian Police said, on Wednesday, they recovered 6.753 kilogrammes of gold that were stolen from a gold mine.

Janeth Magomi, the Shinyanga Regional Police Commander, said gold worth 9.2 billion Tanzanian shillings ($3.68 million) was stolen at the Bulyanhulu Gold Mine a month ago.

Bulyanhulu is an underground gold mine in the Shinyanga region located 55 kilometres south of Lake Victoria.

“Following the theft of the gold, the Police, in collaboration with other security agencies, launched a special crackdown.

“The crackdown led to the recovery of the gold on Tuesday,” she told a news conference.

Magomi said the Police recovered the gold in a house in the Shinyanga municipality.

This followed the Police crackdown conducted from July 26 to Aug. 22.

She said the Police have arrested some traders in connection with the stolen gold, and investigations are still underway. (Xinhua)
