The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has donated 50 tonnes of relief materials to the Nigerian Government to support internally displaced persons affected by the flood disaster in parts of the country.
TheNewsZenith reports that the humanitarian materials arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on Sunday afternoon.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Office of the National Security Adviser to the President (NSA) received the humanitarian aid on arrival.
TheNewsZenith reports that Salem Alshamsi, the UAE Ambassador, presented the relief items to the Federal Government.
Alshamsi said the donation “is UAE’s humanitarian gesture in support of countries affected by natural disasters.
He said the President of the UAE, Sheikh Mohamed Al Nahyan gave the directive to donate the relief materials to cushion the effect of the hardship caused by the flood disaster.
“We provide this urgent humanitarian aid of 50 tonnes of basic supplies to our friendly people of Nigeria, to support areas affected by the recent floods.

“The UAE is always helping nations affected by natural disasters. So we are so happy to be here,” the Ambassador said.
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr Ahmed Dunoma, received the items on behalf of the Federal Government.
Dunoma commended the government and the people of UAE for supporting Nigeria at this crucial time.
He described the donation as unprecedented.
“It showed the kind of excellent relationship between both countries.
`We convey the appreciation of the Nigerian government and her people, to the President and the people of UAE.
“We believe this will ameliorate the sufferings of the people affected by this recent flood,” TheNewsZenith quotes the PS as saying.
