The Police Command in Lagos State says it arrested 23 suspects involved in electoral violence and other crimes during the general elections on Saturday.

The Police Command in Lagos State says it arrested 23 suspects involved in electoral violence during general elections on Saturday.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest to newsmen on Sunday in Lagos.

Hundeyin said the figure might increase as the command is still collating number of arrests from different divisions during voting.

“Collation of suspects arrested is ongoing, 23 suspects as at last count,” he said.

Unknown gunmen allegedly attacked some polling units and disrupted elections and burnt ballot papers thumb-printed in Mafoluku area.

The Commissioner of Police in Lagos, CP Idowu Owohunwa, told newsmen on Saturday that there were pockets of violence in some parts of the state.

Owohunwa said that some persons were arrested, noting that number of people arrested would be made known to the public.
