……..gears up for Nigeria Police Awards Night

The Acting Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, has ordered the resuscitation of awards and commendation system for deserving officers and men of the Force.

Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO) announced the directive in a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja.

Egbetokun believed this would enhance motivation and encouragement among police officers.

“This renewed commendation system represents significant advancement from the past, but now covers all officers involved in every major case.

“The reward system, hitherto solely focused on arresting officers or commanders,” the statement read.

According to the statement, the new system is in line with the provisions of Section 92 of Police Act 2020.

It is also in line with Order 68 of the Force Orders and Instructions.

It will be a milestone in recognising the collective efforts of all officers in upholding law and order in the nation.

“Traditionally, the Nigeria Police Force has a history of conferring commendations and rewards to specific officers who have displayed exemplary performances in critical operations.

“With the new system, commendations and awards will now be bestowed upon all officers who played crucial role in resolving major cases, promoting sense of camaraderie, unity and teamwork.

“This development emphasizes the importance of collaboration and shared responsibility in achieving the force’s objectives.”

The new system will provide platform for the Force to recognise and reward officers for their exceptional dedication and performance. This is without relying solely on special promotions.

“IGP envisions a renewed sense of pride and dedication among police officers as they know their hard work and dedication will be acknowledged and celebrated appropriately,” Adejobi stated.

Meanwhile, Egbetokun has also set machinery in motion to annually organise the Nigeria Police Awards Night.

This is to celebrate outstanding police personnel and certain individuals, who have contributed to a successful policing system in Nigeria.

IGP will announce and unvaile the 2023 Nigeria Police Awards Night as and when due.
