NEMA distributes consumables to selected hospitals in Lagos

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), on Friday, distributed hospital consumables to two health facilities in Lagos state.

They have been treating victims of various disasters and emergencies in the state.

Three other hospitals are to also benefit from the Federal Government gesture.

They are the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Nigerian Army Referral Hospital and Ifako-Ijaiye General Hospital.

The Director-General of NEMA, Alhaji Mustapha Ahmed, said the items would cushion the impact of disasters on victims of emergencies.

The Zonal Coordinator, South West in NEMA, Mr Ibrahim Farinloye  represented the agency’s boss at the occasion.

Ahmed said that the benefiting hospitals have been treating emergency victims on regular basis.

“Some of the victims are returnees from Libya who are distressed; some are victims of building collapse, fire incidence and flooding.

“The flooding in 2022 was very impactful on Lagos.

“ But it may not be visible because of the way the federal government effectively managed it with the collaboration of state actors.

“We had cases where a widow lost three children on the same day,” the NEMA boss said.

According to him, disasters imacted about 10,000 people, while the agency gave relief materials to about 9500 victims.

“Some of them might still need some medical assistance.

“That is why the federal government selected five critical hospitals that are very approachable to the people.

In their separate reactions, the Chief Medical Director, LASUTH, Prof. Adetokunbo Fabamwo and Commander of the Nigeria Airforce Hospital Ikeja, Grp-Capt Muzamil Mohammed, expressed gratitude to the federal government for the kind gesture.

They promised to use the consumables judiciously.
