Nigeria has recorded more than 152 deaths from Lassa fever this year, according to latest statistics from the Nigeria Center for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC).
NCDC reported 788 confirmed cases of Lassa fever across the country in 2023.
It said new confirmed cases stood at nine in the current week from a peak of 23 in Week 14.
Ondo, Edo and Bauchi States recorded new cases in Week 15.
The report indicated there were 152 death cases from Week 1 to Week 15 in 2023.

“Twenty-six states and 101 local government areas recorded at least one confirmed case of Lassa fever.
“Seventy-two confirmed cases were reported from these three states of Ondo, Edo, and Bauchi, while 28 per cent were reported from 23 states.
“Of the 72 per cent confirmed cases, Ondo reported 32 per cent, Edo 29 per cent and Bauchi 11 per cent,” the report read.
It reported 4,702 suspected cases in 2023, compared to 4,127 cases reported for the same period last year.
It added that the virus did not infect any healthcare workers during reporting week 15.
