S/Africa: Nigeria’s envoy condoles Prof. Omotoso’s family

Amb. Andrew Idi, Nigeria’s Consul-General to South Africa, has paid a condolence visit to the family of the late Nigerian literary icon, Prof. Bankole Omotoso.

TheNewsZenith reports that Omotoso, also known as “Kole Omotoso’’, died on July 19, 2023.

Late Omotoso was a Nigerian writer and intellectual, best known for his works of fiction and in South Africa as the “Yebo Gogo man’’ in adverts for the telecommunications company Vodacom.

A minister from the Consulate, Amb. Emmanuel Oguntoye and other dignitaries accompanied Idi on the solemn condolence visit on Thursday in Johannesburg.

Akin Omotoso, the eldest son of the family and other family members warmly received the delegation.

Consul-General expressed heartfelt sympathy, support and encouragement to the family for the great loss.

He described the late professor as an accomplished literary icon.

Idi also extolled sterling qualities of late Omotoso, praising his positive contributions to South Africa through his literary works.

According to him, the Consulate received the news of the passing of an illustrious and highly revered compatriot with shock.

He praised the late icon for his unwavering commitment to the betterment of society, promotion of social justice and dedication to the service of humanity.

Idi acknowledged the contributions of late Omotoso to cultural exchanges and cooperation between Nigeria and South Africa.

These included strengthening brotherly ties and fostering harmonious relationship between the two countries, the Consul General said.
