Lagos establishes Institute of Disaster Management

Lagos, Oct. 7, ’25 (TNZ) The Lagos State government has established the Institute of Disaster Management. It is located at the Igando Relief Camp.

TheNewsZenith reports that the institute will be supervised by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).

It will serve as a training ground for professionals and responders across the country, thus serving as symbols of growth, knowledge and resilience.

The Permanent Secretary, LASEMA, Dr Olufemi Oke- Osanyintolu, announced this new development while briefing newsmen in Lagos.

Osanyintolu used occasion to highlight successes recorded at the just concluded three-day National SEMA Conference, which the state hosted.

He said the institute would equip responders with the skills necessity  to manage and respond to disasters effectively.

According to him, the first cohorts will be admitted into the institution in December.

The PS commended the resilience of the leadership of SEMA in all the thirty six states and FCT, for attending the maiden conference.

”The conference was aimed at charting a new course for emergency management in shaping a safer future for all Nigerians.

“Over the past days, we have shared knowledge, strengthened partnerships, and built a stronger network of emergency managers across Nigeria,” TheNewsZenith quotes him as saying.

Osanyintolu thanked Gov. Babajide Sanwo-olu for investing in emergency management in the state.

He also appreciated all first responders in Lagos for their sacrifice and selflessness service.

“We thank our partners: NEMA, International Organisation for Migration (IOM), medical personnel and others for believing in the vision.

”You supported us in every step of the way. Your contributions made all the difference,” TheNewsZenith qoutes Osanyintolu as saying. (TNZ)
