Police dock 2 men for alleged N2.9m property theft

A security man and a driver, on Tuesday, appeared before an Ogudu Magistrate’s Court, Lagos State, on charges of stealing and receiving  N2.9 million in property.

The security man, Promise Ogbaje, 23, who works at Ogudu GRA, is standing trial for conspiracy and stealing.

Also, the driver, Michael Bode, 35,  who resides on Babalola Street, Ota, Ogun, is facing charges of conspiracy and receiving stolen property

The duo, however, pleaded not guilty.

According to the prosecutor, Insp Donjour Perezi, the complainant, Mrs Naomi Ifeanyi, discovered from a closed-circuit television camera footage that the security man had been stealing from her.

Perezi said that the security man had stolen a generator battery,  four expired vehicle batteries and 720 litres of fuel, among other valuables, from Ifeanyi.

He further told the court that Ogbaje conspired with Bode, who received 720 litres of fuel.

He said the defendants committed the offences on May 13  at 2.30 p.m., on Salaudeen Akano Street, Ogudu GRA.

According to the prosecutor, the offences contravened Sections 287, 328 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Section 328 stipulates 14 years imprisonment for anyone convicted of receiving stolen property.

The Magistrate, Mrs M.O. Tanimola, admitted the defendants to a N300,000 bail each, with two sureties in like sum.

Tanimola adjourned the case until July 12 for mention.
