The Federal Government is set to deploy five million solar power connections to communities, hitherto not connected to the national grid.
The government planned the electricity project under the ‘solar power Niger’ programme of the Rural Electrification Agency.
REA announced this during a forum, held in Abuja, to provide opportunities for investors to pitch financial offerings to developers.
The programme will start with electrification of unserved and underserved communities.

It will consequently help to boost economic growth through the supply of electricity.
REA said it launched the programme as part of an economic sustainability plan.
This is to achieve the rollout of five million new solar connections in off-grid communities.
The objective of the programme is to expand energy access to 25 million individuals through the provision of solar home systems.
